London, UK (Tuesday, September 6, 2016): eSPORT+CARS narrowly missed out on the title in the Forza Racing Championship Season 1 Presented by Ford Performance – finishing second in a 1-on-1 showdown after tying for first at the end of the championship.

Securing second, third and fourth in the standings, eSPORT+CARS once again showed its intentions with quality and quantity of drivers fighting at the pointy end of the virtual grid in one of the biggest ever motorsport esport events ever held.

The level of professionalism and intense competition from the eSPORTS+CARS team obviously made an impression on overall winner Aurélien [Laige] Mallet. After taking the title, he announced that he too is also joining eSPORTS+CARS to further bolster its driving talent.

GetPhoto-10.ashxMallet scoped up prizes worth $42,000 including a 2016 Ford Focus RS. His new eSPORTS+CARS team mates took home $34,000 in prizes – a new record for online racing.

The on-track action was amongst some of the best racing from a packed weekend of real and virtual Motorsport. So close was the competition in the Forza battle, first and second place had to be split using a ‘Shootout’ after points and count back were equal between the pair after two hours of competition.

With support from Ford Performance, Michelin, Microsoft, Xbox and Logitech G, the trend of big brands continuing to invest in esport continues to accelerate.

eSPORTS+CARS Team Principal Darren Cox believes online racing can further professionalise it’s offering in the coming months.

“We have competed and won in championships with major brand involvement, in addition to the Ford Microsoft series there has been support for online racing from Visa, Audi, Red Bull, Porsche, Tag Heuer and many others,” Cox said.

“The recent Newzoo report provides data around this trend that we are seeing in our branch of the sport.”

NewZoo recently increased its forecast of esports revenues for 2016 to $493 million, up 7 per cent from the $463 million projected at the start of the year. This puts the year-on-year growth at +51.7 per cent. Click to view report.

Newzoo highlights revenues from brands as “the key component of the esports economy and will define the pace of growth going forward.”

esports4It states that revenues generated by brands this year will total $350 million or 71 per cent of the esports economy.

eSPORTS+CARS team manager AJ Smith is already thinking about the Red Bull 5G Regional Finals, as well as season two of the Forza Racing Championship which is due to start in November.

“Results from our first major competition have exceeded our expectations,” Smith said.

“We put some pressure upon ourselves given the caliber of drivers we have brought together, but they worked magnificently as a team was not fazed by anything.

“A huge amount of credit needs to go to Evan [Raceboy] Thorogood (CAN) for his part in bringing this group together. I strongly believe that we have the top 10 Forza Motorsport drivers in the world on our roster, and I can’t wait to see how they develop.

“The number of esports competitions on both Forza and other racing titles is now really starting to pick up steam, and we are already preparing for the Red Bull 5G Regional Finals at the end of the month.”
